The Knox Community Jazz Orchestra performed at the recent Centerburg High School
School Jazz Band Exchange Concert on April 19th. The evening was an absolute success, and
the bands were told they were to be as casual as they wanted. Chuck Dettmar, CHS Band
Director, even told the crowd of over 200 that he wanted dancing in the aisles, whistling,
cheering and a rowdy good time, as if they were on a side street in New Orleans watching some
jazz. It was just that… a really good time. No judges, scores, ratings, rankings… nothing. The
bands just came, ate some homemade spaghetti and meatballs prepared by Mr. D. and the
Music Booster Assoc. and then had a blast playing for each other. Performing jazz bands came
from Centerburg, Utica, Granville and New Albany High Schools. (Pictured above is the Knox
Community Jazz Orchestra, in which our director, Mr. D., is the lead alto sax).
